Fence Repair and Installation in Danville, CA

Short answer

Danville allows 6-foot fences in side and rear yards, or 7 feet when the top foot is open lattice, and 3.5 feet in front setbacks. A shared fence on a retaining wall is limited to 6 feet combined, or 7 with lattice (Danville Fence Standards). Alamo, Blackhawk and Diablo follow county rules, plus HOA review.

Second-generation fences

The median Danville home was built around 1980 (Census), so many original fences have already been replaced once and the replacements are now aging. A full replacement is a chance to switch to steel posts or a lattice-top design that reaches 7 feet within the standards. Replacement options.

Gates and pools

Side-yard and pool gates take daily use. A pool gate must open away from the pool and self-close and self-latch (HSC §115923). Gate repair.

Shared fences on retaining walls

Where a fence sits on a wall between two yards, the height counts from the low side in Danville’s combined limit, and the cost of the fence is presumed shared under Civil Code §841. Good neighbor fences.

Alamo, Blackhawk and Diablo

These are unincorporated and follow Contra Costa County zoning, which we haven’t confirmed for this page; check with the county before building. Blackhawk’s architectural review committee approves fence changes, and other HOAs have their own rules. Fire hazard maps for this area come from San Ramon Valley Fire.
